First Step is a new project designed to meet the needs of male victims and survivors of sexual abuse and their families, carers, supporters and communities.
These needs will be met through social work and other activities related to Prevention & Protection, Support, and Advocacy & Education. Our primary goal is to work in partnership with everyone for positive change and ensure that all male survivors are enabled to achieve their potential with freedom and dignity.
In order to achieve this, direct social work services that are appropriate and sensitive to males’ needs are available, as well as unique and specialist training, support, learning and consultation opportunities for those working with boys and young men in various settings.
More details about services can be obtained by reading the relevant pages on this website.
The site will expand and develop over the forthcoming months to reflect the growth of the project and also in response to the needs of our readers and partners.
Thank you for taking the time to visit.
We have been informed by partners M'lop Tapang that on April 24th 2012, five Cambodian men, driving a grey LandCruiser car and claiming to be from First Step, approached families living in Sihanouk Ville, informing them that they were 'carrying out a survey' into abuse within families.
They did not show any form of identification though they did hand families a piece of paper with the FSC address and contact details, which appears as if it was cut and pasted from our web site. The piece of paper also contained the contact details of several other local NGOs.
FSC would like to make it clear that these individuals, whoever they are, are not employees or representatives of First Step, have no recognised relationship with FSC and were not authorised to carry out any activities in our name.
Impersonating staff of an NGO is illegal and a matter that we should all take very seriously. We are therefore currently in the process of contacting the authorities in order for them to make further inquiries and once we have more information will consider exactly what action to take.
Therefore, if anyone reading this announcement has any information that would lead to identifying these individuals, please contact our office using the details at the bottom of this page. Your contact will be treated confidentially.
